چکیده

Aim: In this study we aimed to search the antibacterial effect of the drugs with active ingredients of Pelargonium sidoides on different bacterial species isolated from the throat cultures of patients with upper airway infection. Methods: Antibacterial activity on 72 Streptococci, 48 Stapyhlococcus, 32 Neisseriae spp, 20 Moraxella catarrhalis, and 20 Haemophilus influenzae was evaluated by using microdilution broth method. Results: Antibacterial effect was detected on 8 Neisseriae spp, 4 Haemophilus influenzae, 4 Streptococcus pneumoniae, 4 Staphylococcus epidermidis and 4 Moraxella catharralis at 200 microgram and higher concentrations of the drug; but no meaningful antibacterial activity on other kinds of bacteria tested was observed Conclusion: The scientific data with respect to antibacterial effect of Pelargonium sidoides are hopeful, but it is unadvisable to use this drug instead of antibiotic treatments.

The immunostimulating effect of Pelargonium reinforme / sidoides extract (Kalobin) against Prohemistomum vivax infection in mice was investigated. Five groups of mice were constructed. The first group was not treated nor infected and considered as control, the second group; control infected, was not treated but orally infected with 150 P. vivax metacercareae. The third, fourth and fifth groups ...

Benzopyranones and their sulfate esters from Pelargonium sidoides.

Investigation of the benzopyranones from the roots of PELARGONIUM SIDOIDES led to the identification of 15 benzopyranones, among them the novel compounds 12 and 14. Furthermore, benzopyranones 4 and 15 were detected in PELARGONIUM SIDOIDES for the first time. Structure determinations were performed by one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. An HPLC system for the discrimination of these benz...

Anti-infective activities of Pelargonium sidoides (EPS® 7630): effects of induced NO production on Leishmania major in infected macrophages and antiviral effects as assessed in a fibroblast-virus protection assay.

EPs® 7630 is an aqueous-ethanolic extract of the roots of Pelargonium sidoides, employed in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections. Its anti-infective activity is supposed to be associated with the activation of the nonspecific immune system. Using Leishmania major GFP-infected murine BMMΦ, the NO production of EPs® 7630-activated macrophages was correlated with the reduction of th...
